Test the federal and/or state withholding calculation for entered criteria and print calculation details. Use this diagnostic option when investigating a withholding amount.
Using this option
- Enter Current Taxable Wages for the pay period, Marital Status, Pay Code, and Tax Year.
- Review W-4 Year, applicable exemption selections, and W-4 Step 2. Complete the state-specific fields shown for the configured state using the same inputs as the payroll being checked.
- If testing state withholding with a specified federal amount, enter Federal Withholding as an override. Review State Tax Add-On and any state-specific additional-withholding field.
- Choose Test Federal, Test State, or Test Both. Federal Table prints the federal table information. Review the calculation report, then adjust the criteria and test again if needed. Cancel returns to the menu.
Notes
These standard tests use entered criteria and do not issue a check or replace posted employee payroll amounts. Test criteria are remembered for later runs.
Use the same pay frequency, tax year, and employee withholding settings as the calculation you are investigating. A different input can legitimately produce a different result.
A Test Check button may appear for ACS developers. That separate diagnostic path is not needed for the standard withholding tests described here.
